Watermelon by Marti Roberts - June 21, 2010
From a small black seed God grows the watermelon fruit;
It baffles my mind, to tell you the truth.
The rind is green, and sometimes it's striped;
I thump it and listen to see if it's ripe.
The melon drips with sweet red juice;
It's shape can be round, long or obtuse.
Eat it plain, or add a little salt;
On a hot summer day, you need no excuse. Yum!
